History Fun Chat

Must admit…history was one of the most boring subjects for me when I was in school.  I sure as heck don’t remember much of what I must have been taught.

That all changed when I started following history out of natural enthusiasm for collecting certain antiques, namely Victorian/Edwardian era china, and classical art prints.

I’ve been online for about six years now, and having discovered eBay about four years ago, I have since developed a genuine LOVE for history.

Part of what is so thrilling to me is exploring what a moment in life must have been like for any of my great, or great-great grandparents.  It causes a very real connection within me, and a deep love for them, even though I have never met them.  (Well, I hear I met a great grandmother when I was a newborn, but that was my only visit, so far as I know!)

I am so grateful for these simple “connections,”  whether direct, or indirect.

As I personally do believe in the hereafter - and yes, even a here-before - I like to think my family in those dimensions are watching my life with joy, just as I have joy in glimpsing tiny pieces of theirs.

Because of this blossoming enthusiasm, I am tickled to say that at age 43, I now have a rather loose timeline in my head of major historic events from about the 1730’s, to the present.  I know where Napolian fits in.  I can pinpoint fairly accurately where dress styles fits in.  I know where the American and French revolutions fit it.  The Civil War.  WWI and II, and Pearl Harbor.  The stock market crash of ‘29.  The Alamo.  The sewing machine.  The camera.

Pretty good for someone who used to hate history!

I would love to see more young people finding history to be an enjoyable subject.   In time, LPH could be a major force for growing a love of history, naturally, among America’s youth.

Better yet, we might all enjoy it together :-)
