Here's Why Puzlet Gems Are So Amazing!

Puzlet Gems are the world's first miniature-to-scale wood jigsaw puzzles to incorporate artistic cut designs, including whimsies and multi-piece figurals. Every puzlet is individually created by artist Carrie Charley-Franzwa using both modern and traditional tools to advance this unique form of art. Although these tiny wood jigsaw puzzles are not hand cut like their 1930’s full-size counterparts would have been, they are hand designed, and they do require artistic and miniaturist skill in creative detailing for input to the computer.

Once input these little classic art beauties are cut using a proprietary laser method. This method achieves incredibly narrow and detailed cuts that reflect the artistic designs of the full-size puzzles made at the height of the wooden jigsaw puzzle craze (1932 is considered by puzzle historians to have been the pinacle of their popularity).

Puzlet Gems are anything but ordinary cookie-cutter puzzles! If you own a Puzlet Gem, you own an unusual limited edition fine art “puz-cut-giclee” piece. The first eight designs do not exceed 60 puzlets, +/- proofs. Edition limits will increase a bit over time, but they will never be mass produced.

Puzlet Gems are a genuine first in the industry. Whether you are buying these mini wood jigsaw puzzles as gifts, or for yourself, Puzlet Gems are a fun, very captivating collectible to own. If you like them, buy them, because when they’re gone, they’re gone! As you can imagine, like any other rare item, the first eight designs will be historically valuable in the years to come.

The average Puzlet Gem mini wood jigsaw puzzle contains about 100 pieces at a scale of roughly 1:12.

Production Barriers Mean Added Value for Collectors

Puzlet Gems cannot be mass produced, and it is not forseeable that they will be mass produced in our lifetime. The technology does not exist for inexpensive, mass production.

Only two companies are known to exist that can do the delicate, original cut-work required for these specialized Puzlets. The one that could make larger runs for us (up to 2000 of one design – still hardly mass production) is in a far away time zone, speaks a different language and requires a middle man which makes for huge problems in artistic detailing and time management. We no longer consider them an option, and their proprietary methods are not available for purchase.

While these manufacturing restraints present expansion limitations for this art form, it also presents an assurance to enthusiasts that their Puzlet Gem collections will remain exceptionally rare and valuable.

Assembly is Fun!

It takes approximately 2 hours to complete a Puzlet Gem for the first time. Like the old wood jigsaw puzzles, no guide picture is provided. We highly recommend assembling your Puzlets on a piece of smooth suede, or on a Puzlet Gem Ultrasuede Assembly Mat. Suede and Ultrasuede are ideal for holding tiny Puzlet pieces still while fitting them together - a real boon to your enjoyment!

How to Purchase Your Puzlet Gem Miniature Wood Jigsaw Puzzles

Simply sign up for the free, no obligation announcement service so we can let you know when stock comes available. Because Puzlet Gems are a specialized art form, and expensive to make, we have not as yet produced the full editions and maintained inventory. Puzlets are produced in small batches, and then released around the holidays. Our first transactions were handled through eBay, however we hope to have our own checkout system in place for the 2008 holiday season.

The designs shown on this page have NOT sold out. Sold out editions will be removed and sent to an archive so our visitors can always tell if it is still possible to secure what they see here.
